Pumpkin Patch

On September 30, 2011 Kindergarten visited the Old Baker Farm. It was a beautiful autumn day and the children really enjoyed getting to participate in many activities. They were able to navigate a hay maze, play on huge hay bales, pick cotton, pet and see farm animals and go on a hay ride to get a pumpkin! We all had a wonderful time!

Kiera and Iyani wanted to get a good look at the baby cows.

                             A'Tierius is all smiles!

Picking the cotton. They all thought this was really cool!

Hard at work!
Dixy and Baylee loved petting the bunny.

Johnny Appleseed Day

Friday September 23 Kindergarten celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day! This is something that we do each year. All of the kindergarten classes get together and do "Apple Centers." With the help of WONDERFUL parent and grandparent volunteers we are able to do some really neat things. We had six centers this year. Our class started out in our classroom listening to the story of "The Little Red House with No Windows and No Doors and a Star Inside." They loved listening to our WAY (Wellness and You) volunteer read and were amazed to see a star in the center of an apple at the end of the story. Then, our class made apple collages by tearing tissue paper and gluing onto an apple shape. Next, we moved on to Mrs. Bradford's room for some "taste testing." The students sampled red, yellow and green apples and then voted for their favorite by placing that color apple on an apple graph (Green was the winner!). They also got to sample homemade applesauce, apple butter, apple jelly, apple pies, apple-caramel cake, apple pizza and apple juice. This center was a delight to watch as they decided what they did and didn't like to eat. :) Finally we moved on to Mrs. Garner's class to paint some apple patterns and make Apple Jack pattern necklaces. Every child commented on how much they LOVED apple day and even asked if we could do it everyday. :) We are so thankful to have parent and grandparent support so that we can offer fun and exciting ways to learn to our students each year. I am including a few pictures below. I have more that I will try to upload later!

Students at the yellow table were hard at work on their Apple Collage.
             C. R. chose to make a green apple collage.
They really enjoyed all of the Johnny Appleseed activities!

I Can Board

Our class is working hard to earn petals for their flowers on our "I Can" board. Every child in our class has learned to key in their lunch number so all of our flowers have at least one petal. In addition, several student's have earned petals for tying their shoes and knowing all of their letters. Please remember that students can earn petals for anything they learn or accomplish this year as long as they can demonstrate for me! If your child has a newly acquired skill please jot me a note and they can earn a petal for their flower! This is a board to celebrate the things that each child "Can do!!!" Keep up the good work at home and please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
