Friday September 23 Kindergarten celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day! This is something that we do each year. All of the kindergarten classes get together and do "Apple Centers." With the help of WONDERFUL parent and grandparent volunteers we are able to do some really neat things. We had six centers this year. Our class started out in our classroom listening to the story of "The Little Red House with No Windows and No Doors and a Star Inside." They loved listening to our WAY (Wellness and You) volunteer read and were amazed to see a star in the center of an apple at the end of the story. Then, our class made apple collages by tearing tissue paper and gluing onto an apple shape. Next, we moved on to Mrs. Bradford's room for some "taste testing." The students sampled red, yellow and green apples and then voted for their favorite by placing that color apple on an apple graph (Green was the winner!). They also got to sample homemade applesauce, apple butter, apple jelly, apple pies, apple-caramel cake, apple pizza and apple juice. This center was a delight to watch as they decided what they did and didn't like to eat. :) Finally we moved on to Mrs. Garner's class to paint some apple patterns and make Apple Jack pattern necklaces. Every child commented on how much they LOVED apple day and even asked if we could do it everyday. :) We are so thankful to have parent and grandparent support so that we can offer fun and exciting ways to learn to our students each year. I am including a few pictures below. I have more that I will try to upload later!

C. R. chose to make a green apple collage.
They really enjoyed all of the Johnny Appleseed activities!
